The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Trying to find a supplier in Australia when we don’t have manufacturing for complex bag designs was challenging. As was/is getting eyeballs on a new brand – staying consistent and authentic on my social media, doing local markets, baby and children’s expos.
Another challenge was launching during the Covid-19 pandemic when people where not leaving the house, or travelling.
Staying at it and not burning out is a lot of hard work, so I have to be motivated to drive the brand, not having staff to help me.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are how rewarding it is to see your ideas come to life, enjoying connecting with other parents and providing them with a product that will help them, and networking and supporting other small businesses.
As for cons, it takes a lot of time, commitment, motivation, trial and error – and not everything works. It is more 24/7 than working for someone else.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’m hoping to extend Mummas Wear into clothing, starting with a small Ribbed collection that is ideal for all women, but in particular is pregnancy and nursing friendly – clothing that is versatile and comfortable to wear throughout all the stages of motherhood.
I want to continue to make mothers feel good about themselves, especially when their bodies go through so much from pregnancy to breastfeeding and beyond.
Visit the Mummas Wear website to shop their gorgeous and functional bags for parents. You can also connect with them on Facebook and Instagram.
