The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
When we first started, we were working from a small space, and it was very restrictive in producing the product. The house became part of the factory. We have since moved to a much larger area which supports what we need to do.
It was quite a long and arduous process to find the most suitable suppliers at the best price possible for the kit to be put together. We have come a long way with this.
Finding a suitable plastic container is still work in progress as we ideally would like to make the containers environmentally friendly but also more solid and robust. For now, these are consumable items.
Bringing the cost to produce the product down has been a huge challenge and ongoing. We have decided to manufacture the product in New Zealand for quality control and to support as many NZ businesses as possible.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros: Working for oneself can be tough work, but we love the freedom of being our own bosses. It allows us to also work from home so that we can be more interactive with our children. We get to follow our passion and believe me; there is never a boring day at work.
Cons: We are dealing with all the challenges of a business and not just what one specific job entails. Even though we love working from home, there can be distractions. Working longer hours is also required through different phases of the business.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
We would love to partner with a company passionate about parents and children, who can assist us in manufacturing the product and/or taking the company on a wider scale to Australia and beyond.
