The Family-Friendly Café Experience

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Life throws challenges on a daily basis. What really makes my day is when I receive a lovely smile or chat from customers: a positive confirmation in these trying times. Friendly and positive people really keep my staff and me going. Please remember a simple smile and courtesy go a very long way for any hospitality or service worker. 😊

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Having your own hospitality business can involve long hours.

You’ll work far more than any 9-5 job. There is a constant feeling of guilt when you are not working. The customers, staff and business are always on your mind and you are constantly thinking of how we can improve. This can be emotionally and physically draining at times.

As a business owner, you never quite know if you are doing things right but it is great when you get a customer complimenting us on their dining experience or a new idea we have implemented.

We always get to meet a diverse range of people within the community from all walks of life. We get a great deal of satisfaction when we can put a smile on someone’s face and know that they are leaving happier.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I am writing this whilst we are in COVID-19 level 4 lockdown, going into level 3. It has been a very surreal and worrying time. I think everyone is hoping that we can get back into some new form of normality where people feel safe, secure and happy. Urban Verge will be open in Level 2 and we are looking forward to some long-overdue social catch-ups at the café.

To find out more and to check out their delicious menu, head to the Urban Verge website, and join their Facebook and Instagram communities.
