The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Gosh, when I think of the first two years in business and all I had to overcome, it’s amazing to me that I survived it let alone my business. Because, both times my Dad was desperately sick. And we’re talking in hospital for months, things are day to day, kind of sick… My husband had a concussion and needed caring for also. So, there I was already with my hands full having a sick dad, caring for two children and running a company. Then, my husband and right-hand man was off work on ACC for nine months with a head injury. During which time we had to fight ACC, our insurance company and the works.
Then, as if that wasn’t difficult enough, I broke my arm. My husband already couldn’t drive, so that left us with two children to drive to school and no able drivers.
What drove me over this time was that knowing it was all temporary. Seeing past the right now, and knowing that I was on the path to achieving my forever goal.
Having clear goals, and being clear in WHY they were important to me.
For me, that was: knowing that I could have never supported my family to the extent I did, while working full time at a traditional job.
And it’s not all bad – even though I initially set up my business to give me the freedom to work from home and the hospital, etc. Now, I can run it from anywhere and travel. Last year my family and I travelled full-time for three months. So, I’ve run my business from Fiji, Europe, Asia, Indonesia and Australia!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros are the flexibility it provides both in lifestyle and income potential.
Cons are that it’s really really hard work at times. Often we go into business because we love to do something, and don’t quite factor in how much legal compliance, admin, sales and so on that will be required of us. When you’re really small, that’s a big deal if you haven’t got any business training or mentorship.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My goal is to help 10,000 entrepreneurs achieve their goals. And, I’m aiming for a seven-figure turnover within three years.
I’ll be doing that by continuing to grow my online school, which helps entrepreneurs learn all the strategy and systems required for them to achieve their goals.
