Utilising Nature’s Gifts to Nurture Mums & Babies

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

It’s always tricky and I don’t claim to have mastered the balance. Changing my business operations so that part of it could be operated from home definitely helped and gave me more time with my daughter while still pre-school aged. I try really hard to make sure that family time includes lots of quality time that will hopefully imprint on my kids’ memories.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

When my daughter was born, I thought I could be superwoman and take on studies in business – while looking after a baby and a toddler – and help my husband run our two businesses (lol). It didn’t bode well for the study outcome, but it did teach me my limits and my priorities. Working with little ones underfoot that needed my attention whilst trying to meet deadlines and meet clients’ needs has been a huge challenge, but of course my children are also my biggest drive to keep doing what I’m doing.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The ability to manage your own time and work/family balance is definitely the big bonus. I’ve been self-employed for most of my working life and l love it, but it’s not always easy. No one pays me overtime when I’m burning the candle at both ends, and no one pays me holiday pay when I need a break. So there’s a lot of self-discipline and time management required.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I’m currently preparing to take Healing Mummas to the next step. I have a few more products about to become available on the online store, including a beautiful anti stretch mark body oil, and a custom range of aromatherapy blends tailored for young families. Then I will be presenting to potential stockists. I’m hoping to see Healing Mummas products available in a number of health stores and midwifery clinics in the next few months.

Visit the Healing Mummas website to find out more and join their Facebook community.
