The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
My biggest challenge is definitely my fear of technology associated with building and developing my business. I also spend a lot of time worrying about the sustainability of Coastal Baby and how we can scale it up as the business develops. My star sign is Leo and like a lion I am a strong character with a positive attitude and very rarely admit defeat – sometimes to my detriment which can backfire. However, I feel in the last two years I have learnt a lot and regularly enrol in online business workshops to meet new, like-minded people like myself who offer a new perspective – it can feel like a breath of fresh air!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are…
- The freedom of being my own boss.
- I love the creative design element of my business.
- Scheduling photoshoots and working with our beautiful baby brand ambassadors.
- Beach photoshoots showcasing our products.
- Promoting merino as an all-round natural and sustainable choice for your baby.
The cons are…
- The time it takes to get a business up and running.
- Constantly wondering if I am doing enough.
- Always thinking about the budget and the bottom line.
- Wondering if my business is going to be a success.
- Time management is essential and there is never enough time in the day!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My dream would be to successfully scale up Coastal Baby so I could reduce my London work and enjoy more family time in Cornwall: a beautiful place that I am proud to call home.
