Ethically Made Merino Babywear that’s Kinder to Your Baby’s Skin

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

We both have very supportive families, and the partnership between Amy and me is so easy. Our partnership blossomed because our skill sets complement each other, and sharing the load allows each of us more time with our families. Amy is a committed homeschool teacher to their youngest child, and in this modern world, both Amy and I work from home, which helps us to strike a nice balance.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

We got a lot of “No”s from manufacturers and pattern makers, saying what we wanted to do wasn’t done and couldn’t be done. But we kept pushing.  We knew we just needed to find the right people who understood our vision for a fully reversible range of baby clothing, with no tags and no scratchy seams to aggravate delicate skin, that were beautiful, functional, and built to last.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I think the constant fear and crises of confidence, of “are we doing the right thing?” is such a killer. There have been a few sleepless nights. It is such a risk to put yourself and your ideas out there, but the incredible feedback from parents and retailers has continued to buoy us.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

We want to use the technology in the Twozee in older children’s clothes. We know the increasing incidence of sensory processing issues in young children, be it from sensitive skin like eczema, or for children on the autism spectrum, means that too many children are uncomfortable, and clothing is one of the biggest triggers for outbursts. As parents we know, even if a child isn’t on the spectrum of a sensory processing condition, that putting a child in anything uncomfortable will lead to difficult behaviour. We know that comfortable children, are happier, calmer, and better sleepers.
